Wir hören aus dem 1. Petrusbrief (1. Petr. 2, 21-24)

Da auch Christus gelitten hat für euch und euch ein Vorbild hinterlassen, dass ihr sollt nachfolgen seinen Fußstapfen; er, der keine Sünde getan hat und in dessen Mund sich kein Betrug fand; der nicht widerschmähte, als er geschmäht wurde, nicht drohte, als er litt, er stellte es aber dem anheim, der gerecht richtet; der unsere Sünde selbst hinaufgetragen hat an seinem Leibe auf das Holz, damit wir, der Sünde abgestorben, der Gerechtigkeit leben. Durch seine Wunden seid ihr heil geworden. Denn ihr wart wie die irrenden Schafe; aber ihr seid nun bekehrt zu dem Hirten und Bischof eurer Seelen. Das ist das Wort des Herrn

BEGINN DES WEGES

Der Weg des Leidens ist schmal und schwierig. Es ist ein großer Trost für uns zu wissen, dass Christus – unschuldig und ohne Sünde – diesen Weg vor uns gegangen ist und ihm folgte bis zu seinem Ende. Aber unser Weg heute ist nicht der gleiche, den er ging. Ein helles Licht erleuchtet ihn jetzt. Deshalb wollen wir unseren Weg mit Mut und Hoffnung gehen, weil wir wissen, dass er zwar nach Golgatha führt, aber dort nicht endet. Er geht weiter über Karfreitag zu Ostern.

1 Jesus wird zum Tod verurteilt

Die Menge, angestachelt von ihren Führern, fuhr fort zu schreien: „Kreuzige ihn, kreuzige ihn!“ Da redete Pilatus abermals auf sie ein, weil er Jesus losgeben wollte: „Warum? Was hat denn dieser Böses getan? Ich habe nichts an ihm gefunden, was den Tod verdient.“ Sie riefen aber: „Kreuzige ihn, kreuzige ihn!“, und sie setzten sich durch. Wir sind nur Zuschauer. Als Sünder rufen wir auch mit der Menge: „Kreuzige ihn!“ Möge stattdessen unsere Stimme verstummen in einem demütigen Gebet um Vergebung: „Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir; Herr, höre meine Stimme. Denn bei dir ist Gnade und viel Vergebung“ (Ps. 130). „Gott, sei mir gnädig nach deiner Güte; und tilge meine Sünden nach deiner großen Barmherzigkeit. Wasche mich rein von meiner Missetat, und reinige mich von meiner Sünde“ (Ps. 51).

2 Jesus nimmt sein Kreuz

Die Soldaten verspotteten ihn: „Gegrüßet seist du, der Juden König.“ Sie zogen ihm einen Purpurmantel an und setzten ihm eine Dornenkrone auf. Dann, als ihr Spott abnahm, legten sie das schwere Holz auf seine Schultern. Er nahm es willig auf sich. Jesus sagte: „Wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt und mir nachfolgt, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. Wer sein Leben findet, der wird’s verlieren; und wer sein Leben verliert um meinetwillen, der wird’s finden“ (Lk 14 / Mt. 10).

3 Jesus fällt zum ersten Mal

Die Überlieferung erzählt, dass Jesus dreimal auf seinem schmerzvollen Weg fiel. Erschöpft und überwältigt von der erdrückenden Last fiel er zu Boden. Der Apostel Paulus sprach vom Kreuz als sei es ein Stolperklotz , als sei es Wahnsinn. Aber für die, die berufen sind, ist dieser zerbrochene Jesus der Christus, die Macht und die Weisheit Gottes. „Denn die Torheit Gottes ist weiser, als die Menschen sind, und die Schwachheit Gottes ist stärker, als die Menschen sind“ (1. Kor. 1).

Wir sind alle belastet in unserem Geist und in unserem Körper. Krankheit und Erschöpfung, die Hast unserer Tage, der Druck unserer Verantwortung sind das Kreuz, das wir tragen müssen. Jesus sagt zu uns: „Kommt her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid; ich will euch erquicken. Denn mein joch ist sanft und meine Last ist leicht“ (Mt. 11)

4 Jesus trifft seine Mutter Maria

Die Überlieferung berichtet uns auch von einer Begegnung von Mutter und Sohn auf dem Weg zur Hinrichtung. Sie war der Mittelpunkt und der Beginn des Geheimnisses der Erlösung; sie war bei ihm bei vielen seiner Predigten und Heilungen; sie stand bis zum Ende unter dem Kreuz. Ist es nicht glaubhaft, dass diejenige, die ein Vorbild an Glaube und Solidarität ist, auch an diesem letzten Weg Anteil nimmt? Im Tempel, Maria, sagte der alte Mann: „Dieses Kind ist dafür bestimmt, ein Zeichen zu sein, dem widersprochen wird – und auch durch deine Seele wird ein Schwert dringen“ (Lk. 2). Sei bei uns, Maria, auf unserem irdischen Weg. Zeige uns, wie wir in der Nähe denes Sohnes bleiben können. Bete für uns und in der Stunde unseres Todes.

5 Das Kreuz wird auf Simon von Kyrene gelegt

„Und sie ergriffen einen Mann, Simon von Kyrene, der vom Feld kam, und legten das Kreuz auf ihn, dass er’s Jesus nachtrüge“ (Mt/15 Lk. 23). Jesus hat nicht genug Kraft, um sein Kreuz zu tragen. Sein Geist war willig, aber sein Fleisch – unser Fleisch – war schwach. Eine kurze Zeit würde er das Kreuz annehmen. „Warum ich?“, protestierte Simon, und wir haben es auch gesagt. Es kann schwer sein, die Last der Nachfolge zu tragen. Paulus sagt: „Jeder hat seine eigene Last zu tragen“, aber genauso sind wir aufgerufen, dass „einer des anderen Last trage“ (Gal. 6).

6 Veronica wischt das Gesicht von Jesus ab

Es gibt eine Legende, die von einer Frau namens Veronica berichtet, die Christus, während er sein Kreuz trug, voll Mitleid mit ihrem Schleier den Schweiß und das Blut vom Gesicht abwischte. Als Belohnung für ihre Güte blieb sein Abbild auf dem Schleier. Vielleicht kommen die Gerüchte von einem wirklichen Abbild Christi auf einem Tuch von dieser Legende. Würde solch ein Leichentuch die Zeiten überdauern? Der Name „Veronica“ bedeutet „wahres Abbild“. Wir sind nicht verlegen, dass eine Legende die Botschaft des Evangeliums so schön erzählt. Legenden können lebendig werden. Mutter Theresa von Kalkutta wischte die Wunden der Hoffnungslosen und Sterbenden, weil sie das Abbild Christi in ihnen sah. „Was ihr für einen dieser geringsten meiner Brüder tut, das tut ihr für mich.“

7 Jesus fällt zum zweiten Mal

„Wir gingen alle in die Irre wie Schafe, ein jeder sah auf seinen Weg. Aber der Herr warf unser aller Sünde auf ihn“ (Jes. 53). „Gott hat den, der von keiner Sünde wusste, für uns zur Sünde gemacht, damit wir in ihm die Gerechtigkeit würden“ (2. Kor. 5). Beladen mit unserer Sünde fiel Jesus erneut.

Herr, die wir deinem Namen tragen und uns dein Kreuz das rettende Zeichen ist, du fährst fort zu straucheln und zu fallen. Du sprachst zu dem Gelähmten, „Steh auf und geh ... deine Sünden sind dir vergeben“ (Mk. 2). Heile unsere Schwäche mit deinem rettenden Wort, damit wir, wie du, wieder aufstehen und unseren Weg fortsetzen können.

8 Jesus begegnet den Frauen von Jerusalem

Lukas schreibt: „Es folgte ihm aber eine große Volksmenge und Frauen, die klagten und beweinten ihn. Jesus aber wandte sich um zu ihnen und sprach: Ihr Töchter von Jerusalem, weint nicht über mich, sondern weint über euch selbst und eure Kinder. Denn siehe, es wird die Zeit kommen, in der man sagen wird: Selig sind die Unfruchtbaren und die Leiber, die nicht geboren haben, und die Brüste, die nicht genährt haben. Dann werden sie anfangen zu sagen zu den Bergen: Fallt über uns! Und zu den Hügeln: bedeckt uns! Denn wenn man das tut am grünen Holz, was wird am dürren werden?“ (Lk. 23). Wir haben den Kreuzweg mit unseren Tränen benetzt. Für wen weinen wir? Für ihn oder für uns? Jesus ist das grüne Holz, der lebendige Wein, verbrannt durch seine Qual. Getrennt von ihm sind wir tote Zweige und zum Scheitern verurteilt. Durch ihn und mit ihm und in ihm haben wir Hoffnung.

9 Jesus fällt zum dritten Mal

Seine Kräfte versagten ganz. Die Überlieferung erzählt, dass Jesus, völlig erschöpft, zum dritten Mal fiel. Bewahre mich, o Herr, vor einem endgültigen geistigen Zusammenbruch. Doch „meine Kraft ist in den Schwachen mächtig“ (2. Kor. 12). Ich muss kommen, um zu erfahren: „Meine Stärke und mein Mut ist der Herr“ (Ps. 113). „Die auf den Herrn harren, kriegen neue Kraft; sie werden laufen und nicht matt werden, sie werden wandeln und nicht müde werden“ (Jes. 40).

10 Jesus wurde seiner Kleidung beraubt

Das war die Schädelstätte, Golgatha. Was blieb übrig von dem verurteilten Gefangenen? Seine Ehre war zerschlagen durch die Verspottung der Soldaten im Gerichtshof; seine Kraft verließ ihn mit jedem Schritt seines Todesmarsches. Nur seine Bescheidenheit blieb, aber auch die wurde ihm mit seiner Kleidung entrissen. Sein gewebtes, aber nahtloses Gewand wurde zum Gewinn einer Soldatenwette. Niemand wettete um sein Schicksal. Das war sicher. „Er, der in göttlicher Gestalt war, hielt es nicht für einen Raub, Gott gleich zu sein, sondern entäußerte sich selbst und nahm Knechtsgestalt an und wurde den Menschen gleich und der Erscheinung nach als Mensch erkannt. Er erniedrigte sich selbst und ward gehorsam bis zum Tode, ja zum Tode am Kreuz“ (Phil. 2).

11 Jesus wird ans Kreuz geschlagen

Jesus wird ans Kreuz geschlagen. Die Füße, die die gute Nachricht von Dorf zu Dorf getragen hatten, die Hände, die so oft zum Lob und Segen erhoben waren, die so oft herunterreichten, um die Niedrigen zu erhöhen, sind nun festgeheftet in einer ewigen Umarmung der Menschen aller Zeiten. Das Schriftwort wurde erfüllt: „Ich aber bin ein Wurm und kein Mensch, ein Spott der Leute und verachtet vom Volke. Alle, die mich sehen, verspotten mich, sperren das Maul auf und schütteln den Kopf: Er klage es dem Herrn, der rette ihn! ... Ich bin ausgeschüttet wie Wasser, alle meine Knochen haben sich voneinander gelöst; mein Herz ist in meinem Leibe wie zerschmolzenes Wachs. Meine Kräfte sind vertrocknet wie eine Scherbe, und meine Zunge klebt mir am Gaumen“ (Ps. 22).

12 Jesus stirbt am Kreuz

Jesus wurde mit zwei Übeltätern gekreuzigt. Pilatus hatte eine Aufschrift anbringen lassen, auf der stand: „Jesus von Nazareth, der König der Juden.“ Die Hohepriester, die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten fuhren fort ihn zu verspotten. Maria und die Jüngerinnen standen still. „Schließlich rief Jesus laut: Vater, in deine Hände befehle ich meinen Geist! Und als er das gesagt hatte, verschied er“ (Lk. 23). „Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen? Ich schreie, aber meine Hilfe ist ferne. Mein Gott, des Tages rufe ich, doch antwortest du nicht, und des Nachts, doch finde ich keine Ruhe. Sie haben meine Hände und Füße durchstochen. Ich kann alle meine Knochen zählen. Sie aber schauen zu und sehen auf mich herab. Sie teilen meine Kleider unter sich und werfen das Los um mein Gewand“ (Ps. 22).

13 Jesu Leichnam wird vom Kreuz genommen

„Und als es schon Abend wurde kam Josef von Arimathäa, ein angesehener Ratsherr, der wagte es und ging zu Pilatus und bat um den Leichnam Jesu. Pilatus überließ den Leichnam Josef, der kaufte ein Leichentuch und nahm Jesus vom Kreuz ...“ (Mk. 15). Wie gewaltvoll war er ans Kreuz genagelt. Wie zärtlich entfernten seine Freunde ihn vom Kreuz. Die Überlieferung, immer Marias Gegenwart bewusst, hat sich aus der Sicht der Mutter gebildet, die ihren gemarterten Sohn empfängt. Michelangelos Meisterstück, die Pieta, hat diese Szene von unbeschreiblichem Pathos festgehalten. „Wir gingen alle in die Irre wie Schafe, ein jeder sah auf seinen Weg. Aber der Herr warf unser aller Sünde auf ihn. Er ist aus Angst und Gericht hinweggenommen. Wer aber kann sein Geschick ermessen? Denn er ist aus dem Land der Lebendigen weggerissen, da er für die Missetat meines Volkes geplagt war“ (Jes. 53).

14 Jesu Grablegung

„Joseph von Arimathäa und Nikodemus, der vormals in der Nacht zu Jesus gekommen war, nahmen den Leichnam Jesu und banden ihn in Leinentücher mit wohlriechenden Ölen, einer Mischung von Myrrhe und Aloe, wie die Juden zu begraben pflegen. Es war aber an der Stätte, wo er gekreuzigt wurde, ein Garten und im Garten ein neues Grab, in das noch nie jemand gelegt worden war. Dahin legten sie Jesus wegen des Rüsttags der Juden, weil das Grab nahe war“ (Joh. 19). „Es waren aber dort Maria von Magdala und die andere Maria; die saßen dem Grab gegenüber“ (Mt. 27). Wir haben dich auf deinem Weg zum Kreuz begleitet, Jesus. Die Stunden des Leidens sind vorbei. „Es ist vollbracht.“ Von der Hinrichtungsstätte gingen wir zum Grab im Garten. Schwer atmend warten wir auf die Antwort des Vaters auf das liebende und gehorsame Geschenk deines Lebens.

Abschließendes Gebet

Wir haben unseren Weg beendet. Mögen unsere Herzen nun für immer offen sein für unseren Herrn und Heiland und seine Passion. Gewähre, Herr, dass, wie wir getauft sind in den Tod deines heiligen Sohnes unseres Heilands Jesus Christus, wir nun sein neues Leben zu seinem ewigen Ruhm und Ehre leben mögen.

INTRODUCTION

My brothers and sisters in Christ. We come together at this time so that we might make this journey of the Stations of the Cross and thereby deepen our understanding of Christ passion which he undertook for us all.

LET US PRAY

O Jesus our saviour we stand before you, ashamed for our sins and ask for your mercy and forgiveness. Lead our minds to contemplate your pain and suffering which you underwent for us. As we make this journey walking the way of the Cross deepen our devotion and love of you and let our prayers and tears reflect our sorrow for the pain we have caused you.

V. We adore O Christ, and we bless you.

Reading: A reading from the first letter of Peter (2:21-24)

Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps. He committed no

sin; no guile was found on his lips. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return. When he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted in him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.

This is the word of the Lord (Pause)

BEGINNING THE JOURNEY

The road of suffering is a narrow and difficult one. It is a great comfort to us to know that Christ, the innocent and sinless one, has gone down this road before us, and gone down it to the end. This road is not the same since he travelled it. A bright light illuminates it now. Let us therefore walk along this road with courage and hope, knowing that though it leads to Calvary it does not end there but at Easter.

1 Jesus is Condemned to Death

The crowd, incited by their leaders kept shouting, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Pilate spoke to them, wishing to release him, "Why? What evil has this man done? I find no crime in him deserving of death." They persisted with their cries, "Crucify him, crucify him!", and they prevailed. We are not mere onlookers. As sinners, we, too, shout with the crowd, "Crucify him!" May our voice instead be hushed in a humble prayer for forgiveness: "Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; Lord hear my voice . for with you is forgiveness and plenteous redemption" (Ps. 130). "Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offence. Thoroughly wash me of my guilt, and of sin cleanse me"(Ps. 51).

2 Jesus Takes Up His Cross

The soldiers had their sport in taunting him, "Hail to the King of the Jews." They mocked him with a purple cloak and the crown of thorns. Then when their fun waned, they laid the hard, dead wood on his shoulders. He accepted it willingly, eagerly. Jesus had said, "Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it"(Lk. 14 / Mt. 10).

3 Jesus Falls the First Time

R. Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

Tradition speaks of Jesus falling three times on his painful journey. Exhausted and overcome by the oppressive burden, he fell to the ground. St. Paul has spoken of the cross as being a stumbling block, as madness. But to those who are called, this broken Jesus is the Christ, the power and the wisdom of God. For "God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength"(I Cor. 1).

We all are burdened in mind and body. Illness and weariness, the pace of our days, the pressures of our responsibilities, are the cross we have to carry. Jesus speaks to us, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy and my burden light"(Mt. 11)?

4 Jesus Meets His Mother Mary

Again tradition tells us of a meeting of mother and son on his way to execution. She was so much the centre of the beginning of this redemptive mystery; she was with him for many of his preaching and healing adventures; she would stand beneath the cross at the end. Isn't it likely that the one who is the model of faith and solidarity would also take part in this last journey? In the temple, Mary, the old man said, "This child is destined to be a sign that is rejected -- and a sword will pierce your own soul too"(Lk.2). Be with us, Mary, on our earthly journey. Show us how to be close to your son. Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

5 The Cross is Laid on Simon of Cyrene

R. Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

"And they forced a certain passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, to carry his cross behind him"(Mt. 15 / Lk.23). Jesus had not enough strength to support his cross. His spirit was willing, but his flesh -- our flesh -- was weak. In a short while, the cross would embrace him. "Why me?" protested Simon, and we have said it too. It can be hard to bear the burden of discipleship. Sometimes it is thrust upon us. Paul says, "Each one has his own load to carry," and yet we are called also to "help bear one another's burdens"(Gal. 6).

6 Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

R. Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

Legend has it that while Christ was carrying his cross, a woman named Veronica, moved with pity, wiped the sweat and blood from his face with her veil. As a reward for her kindness, his image was left on the veil. Perhaps the rumours of a true image of Christ, imprinted on cloth, lay behind this legend. Does such a burial shroud still survive? The name "Veronica" means "true image."

We are not embarrassed at a legend that tells so well the gospel message. Legends can be lived. 7 Jesus Falls the Second Time

"We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way; but the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all"(Isa. 53). "For our sake God made him who knew no sin to be sin, so that in him we might become the goodness of God"(2 Cor. 5). Laden with our sin, Jesus fell again. Lord, we who call ourselves by your name and sign ourselves with your saving cross, continue to stumble and fall. You said to the paralytic, "Get up and walk . . . your sins are forgiven you"(Mk. 2). Heal our weaknesses with your saving word so we, like you, can get up again and complete our journey.

8 Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem

Luke writes, "Large numbers of people followed him, and women too, who moaned and lamented for him. But Jesus turned to them and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep rather for yourselves and for your children. For the days will surely come when people will say; Happy are those who are barren, the wombs that have never borne, the breasts that have never nursed, ' then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us'; to the hills, ¡Cover us!' For if men use the green wood like this, what will happen when it is dry?"(Lk. 23). We have watered the Way of the Cross with our tears. For whom do we weep? For him, or for ourselves? Jesus is the green wood, the living vine, scorched by his agony. Apart from him, we are dead branches and doomed. Through him, and with him, and in him we have hope.

9 Jesus Falls the Third Time

His strength totally failed him. Tradition tells us that Jesus, utterly exhausted, fell for the third time. Keep me, O Lord, from a total collapse of the spirit. Yet, "Strength is made perfect in weakness"(2 Cor. 12). I must come to know that "My strength and my courage is the Lord"(Ps. 113). "They who hope in the lord will renew their strength; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint"(Isa. 40)

10 Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

This was the place of the skull, Golgotha. What was left of the condemned prisoner? His honour was shattered in the courtyard by the soldiers' taunts; his strength was left behind in every step of the death-march. Only his sense of modesty remained, and not that, too, is torn away with his

clothing. His stained, but seamless robe is still worth a soldier's bet. No one bet on his fate. That was certain. "His state was divine, yet he did not cling to his equality with God, but emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave, and became as men are; and being as all men are, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross" (Phil. 2).

11 Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

Jesus is nailed to the cross. The feet which carried the good news from town to village, the hands which so often were raised in praise and blessing, which so often reached down to raise up the lowly, are now fixed in an everlasting embrace of all peoples of all times. The script of the psalm is played out. "Here am I, now more worm than a man, scorn of mankind, jest of the people, all who see me jeer at me, they toss their heads and sneer, ¡He relied on the Lord, let the Lord save him!'...I am like water draining away, my bones are all disjointed, my heart is like wax, melting inside me; my palate is drier than a clay pot, and my tongue is stuck to my jaw"(Ps. 22)

Jesus was crucified with two criminals. Pilate had a sign posted saying, "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews." The chief priests, the scribes and elders continued their mockery. Mary and the faithful women stood in silence. "At last Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, ¡Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.' Having said this he expired"(Lk. 23). "My God, my God, why have you deserted me? How far from saving me, the words I groan! I call all day, my God, but you never answer, all night long I call and cannot rest. They have pierced my hands and my feet: I can count all my bones. They look on me and gloat. They divide my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots"(Ps. 22)

13 Jesus' Body is Removed from the Cross

V. We adore O Christ, and we bless you.

"And when evening had come, Joseph of Arimathea, prominent member of the Sanhedrin, arrived and boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate released the corpse to Joseph, who bought a shroud, and took Jesus down from the cross . . . "(Mk. 15). How violently was he nailed to the cross. How tenderly did his friends remove him. Tradition, ever conscious of Mary's presence, has passed on the sight of the mother receiving her martyred son. Michaelangelo's masterpiece, the Pietá, has fixed this scene of indescribable pathos. "We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way; but the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all. Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away, and who could have thought any more of his destiny? When he was cut off from the land of the living, and smitten for the sin of his people"(Isa. 53).

14 Jesus is Buried in the Tomb

"Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus -- the same one who had first come to Jesus at night -- took the body and wrapped it in linen cloths with spices, a mixture of myrrh and aloes, following the Jewish burial custom. At the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in this garden a new tomb in which no on e had yet been buried. Since it was the Jewish day of Preparation and the tomb was near at hand, they laid Jesus there,"(Jn. 19). "Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, the mother of James and Joseph, were there, sitting opposite the tomb,"(Mt. 27). We have joined you, O Jesus, on the Way of the Cross. The hours of suffering are over, "It is finished." We move to the garden of burial. And we wait for the Father's response to the loving and obedient gift of your life.

Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo. Estamos reunidos aquí para acompañar a nuestro Señor en el Camino de la Cruz y así profundizar en el conocimiento de la pasión de Cristo que se entrega por nosotros a la pasión.

OREMOS

OH Jesús Salvador nuestro, estamos delante de tí avergonzados de nuestro pecado y desamor y pidiendo como hijos piedad y misericordia. Guía nuestro corazón para que podamos contemplar las penas y sufrimientos que aceptas por nosotros. Al acompañarte es este camino de la Cruz, aumenta en nosotros la devoción y el amor hacia ti para que nuestra oración y compasión reflejen nuestro amor.

Lectura de la primera carta de San Pedro (2-21-24)

«Cristo padeció por vosotros dejándoos ejemplo para que sigamos sus pasos. Él no cometió pecado, y en sus labios no se halló engaño; al ser insultado no respondía con insultos; al padecer no amenazaba, sino que se ponía en manos de Aquel que juzga con justicia, el mismo que sobre el madero en su cuerpo llevó nuestros pecados, a fin de que muertos a nuestros pecados, vivamos para la justicia, y con sus heridas habéis sido curados.» Palabra de Dios

COMIENZO DEL VIA CRUCIS

El camino del sufrimiento es estrecho y difícil. Es gran consuelo para nosotros saber que Cristo, el inocente y sin pecado ha sufrido este camino por nosotros y ha llegado hasta el fin. Los caminos del dolor ya no serán más los mismos desde que Jesús paso por ellos. Una gran luz los ilumina desde entonces. Caminemos pues este camino con ánimo y esperanza, sabiendo que conduce al calvario pero no concluye allí, sino en la vida nueva de la Pascua.

1 Jesús es condenado a muerte

La gente, incitada por sus jefes, no paraba de gritar «Crucifícalo, crucifícalo» Pilatos les habló con ánimo de soltarle, «¿Porqué crucificarle, Qué daño ha hecho este hombre?». «Pero ellos insistían en sus gritos, «Crucifícalo, crucifícalo». Ganaron la condena. No somos meros espectadores. Como pecadores, también hemos gritado con la gente «Crucifícalo». Sea ahora nuestra voz una oración humilde que suplica el perdón. «Desde lo más profundo grito hacia ti,¡Señor, escucha mi súplica» (Sal.130) «Ten piedad, oh Dios, según tu amor, Por tu inmensa ternura y compasión borra mi delito, Lávame a fondo de mi culpa, y límpiame de mi pecado» (Sal.51)

2 Jesús carga con su Cruz

Los soldados se divertían haciéndole burla, «Salud, Rey de los Judíos». Le colocaban un manto de púrpura y le pusieron una corona de espinas. Cuando se cansaron de la burla le echaron un madero en forma de cruz a la espalda. Voluntariamente lo agarró como si todavía resonaran sus palabras «Quien no lleva su cruz y me sigue no puede ser mi discípulo. El que busca salvar su vida la perderá y el que la pierda por mi causa la encontrará»

3 Jesús cae por primera vez

S/ Te adoramos oh Cristo y te bendecimos

T/ Porque por tu santa Cruz redimiste al mundo

La piedad cristiana mantiene la tradición de que en el camino de la cruz cayó tres veces. Vencido por el peso y agotado cae en el suelo. San Pablo dice que la Cruz es escándalo porque manifiesta humillación y debilidad. Pero para los seguidores de Cristo es fortaleza y energía. Porque «la locura de Dios es más cuerda que la sabiduría humana y la debilidad de Dios es más fuerte que la fortaleza humana» (1 Cor,1).

Con su cruz Jesús nos da fortaleza ante las debilidades de nuestro cuerpo y nuestra mente, ante el egoísmo del mundo que nos rodea, ante quien atenta contra la convivencia y la paz, ante abusos e injusticias.. Jesús con su cruz nos dice «Venid a mi todos los que estáis cansados y agobiados y yo os aliviaré, porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera» (Mt.11)

4 Jesús encuentra a su Madre

La piedad cristiana que Jesús encontró a su Madre en el camino. En algún momento se encontraron frente a frente mientras el Hijo iba camino de la ejecución. La que estuvo en el principio del misterio de la Redención, quien le acompañó en su predicación e intuyó el primer milagro, no podía desaparecer de la última escena. Se lo pedía su corazón de Madre. La Madre de Jesús guardaba bien en su corazón las palabras que le dijo el anciano Simeón en el Templo. «Este niño está destinado a ser un signo discutido y una espada de dolor atravesará tu alma» (Lc.2). Quédate con nosotros María en nuestro camino por la vida. Muéstranos cómo acercarnos a Jesús. Ruega por nosotros ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte

5 Simón cirineo ayuda a llevar la Cruz

S/ Te adoramos oh Cristo y te bendecimos

T/ Porque por tu santa Cruz redimiste al mundo

«Cuando le llevaban, echaron mano a un cierto Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le cargaron la cruz para que la llevara detrás de Jesús.» (Mt 15). Jesús no tiene bastantes fuerzas para soportar la cruz. Su espíritu está dispuesto pero su carne - nuestra carne - es débil. Simón cirineo que en esta tragedia era un forastero tenía que preguntarse «Por qué me ha tocado a mi». También lo decimos nosotros cuando viene la cruz. No la buscamos nosotros porque la cruz está ahí. «Cada uno de nosotros - dice San Pablo - lleva lo suyo» más aún, todos estamos llamados a «ayudarnos a llevar las cargas unos a otros» (Gal.6)

6 Verónica limpia el rostro de Jesús

Consta en el Evangelio que en el camino del Calvario iban mujeres que se dolían de la injusta condena. La piedad cristiana imagina que una de ellas llamada Verónica, se acercó a limpiar el rostro de Jesús . En ese paño quedaron impregnados los rasgos de su rostro que fue conservado con todo el amor del gesto de esa mujer que se acercó a Jesús. No importa si es tradición o leyenda porque este gesto es obvio para quien ve sufrir a quien ama. Muchos cristianos siguen aliviando el rostro dolorido de los pobres del mundo. La Madre Teresa de Calcuta y cientos de miles de misioneros y misioneras siguen en el mundo haciendo realidad la recomendación de Jesús «cuando hacéis por los pobres y los que sufren, lo hacéis por mi»

7 Jesús cae por segunda vez

T/ Porque por tu santa Cruz redimiste al mundo

«Todos nosotros como ovejas erramos, cada uno marchó por su camino, y Dios descargó sobre él la culpa de todos nosotros».(Is, 53, 6) A quien no conoció pecado, le hizo pecador por nosotros, para que viniésemos a ser justicia de Dios en él.(2 Cor, 5,21). Jesús cae por segunda vez bajo la carga de nuestros pecados. Señor, nosotros vemos que tambaleas y caes. Pero tu dijiste al paralítico: «Levántate y anda, tus pecados te son perdonados (Mc.2). Cura nuestra debilidad con el poder de tu palabra para que nos levantemos y te sigamos hasta el final de la jornada.

8 Jesús se encuentra con las madres

Dice San Lucas: «Le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo y mujeres que se dolían y se lamentaban por él. Jesús, volviéndose a ellas, dijo: “Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí; llorad más bien por vosotras y por vuestros hijos. Porque llegarán días en que se dirá: ¡Dichosas las estériles, las entrañas que no engendraron y los pechos que no criaron! Y se pondrán a decir los montes: ¡Caed sobre nosotros! Y a las colinas: ¡Cubridnos! Porque si en el leño verde hacen esto, en el seco ¿qué se hará? (Lc.23) Regamos de lágrimas el camino de la Cruz pero ¿Por quién lloramos? ¿Por él o por nosotros? Jesús es el leño verde del que brotará la vida pero ¿vivimos con él o estamos lejos y distraídos como leños secos que el tiempo deshace en polvo de nada?Con Él, por Él, y en Él está nuestra esperanza

9 Jesús cae por tercera vez

Exhausto, sin fuerzas, abrumado de debilidad, Jesús cae por tercera vez. El Hijo de Dios es verdaderamente hombre y no se arroga la condición divina para escapar a su misión. Nuestra fuerza que viene de lo alto, se muestra en la debilidad. Cuando tú caes nos levantas. Debo reconocer que «El Señor es mi fuerza mi gloria y salvación» «A los que esperan en el Señor, él les renovará el vigor, Subirán con alas como de águilas, Correrán sin fatigarse.Y andarán sin cansarse.

Además quitarle la dignidad tenía que pasar por el despojo total de su condición de hombre marcado por nuestros pecados, para hacernos hombres nuevos. «Tened entre vosotros los mismos sentimientos que tuvo Cristo. El cual siendo de condición divina no se amparó en su ser de Dios, sino que se despojó de si mismo presentándose como siervo, haciéndose semejante a los hombres y apareciendo en su porte como hombre. 11 Jesús es clavado en la cruz

Los pies que recorrieron la buena nueva, las manos que se levantaban para orar y bendecir. Las manos que curaron y aliviaron enfermos y pobres... ahora son clavadas en la cruz para abrazar, bendecir, orar y curar las heridas y los sufrimientos de todos los tiempos. Esos brazos abiertos me buscan también a mi. Del Mesías se hablaba en un Salmo: «Y yo, gusano que no hombre, vergüenza de lo humano, asco del pueblo, de mí se mofan todos los que me ven, tuercen los labios, menean la cabeza: ”Se confió a Dios, ¡pues que él le libre, que le salve, puesto que le ama!” ...Soy como el agua que se vierte, todos mis huesos se dislocan, mi corazón se vuelve como cera, se me derrite entre mis entrañas. Mi paladar está seco lo mismo que una teja» (Sal. 22

12. Jesús muere en la Cruz

Jesús fue crucificado entre dos malhechores. Pilatos firmó la sentencia que decía: «Jesús Nazareno, el Rey de los Judíos». Los Sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos seguían la burla. Sólo la Madre fiel guardaba silencio. «Por último Jesús dio una gran voz y dijo: «Padre en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu. Y dicho esto expiró»(Lc.23). Dios mío Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado ¿Muerte anunciada y no reconocida. Yo grito pero no tengo ayuda. Mi Dios a ti clamo pero tú no me respondes, ni de noche encuentro descanso. Han atravesado mis manaos y mis pies. Se pueden contar todos mis huesos. Me miran y se mofan de mi. Se reparten mis vestidos y echan suertes entre ellos (Pss.22)

13 El cuerpo de Cristo es bajado de la cruz

S/ Te adoramos oh Cristo y te bendecimos

T/ Porque por tu santa Cruz redimiste al mundo

Al atardecer vino José de Arimatea, miembro respetable del Consejo, que esperaba también el Reino de Dios, y tuvo la valentía de entrar donde Pilato para pedirle el cuerpo de Jesús ... concedió el cuerpo a José, quien, comprando una sábana, lo descolgó de la cruz...(Mc 15). La Madre allí estaba. El hijo adorado por los sabios de oriente estaba ahora muerto en sus brazos. El arte ha querido describir la escena con la serenidad del dolor que no por más comprendido. La obra maestra de Miguel Ángel lo muestra. El profeta Isaías lo había anunciado: Todos nosotros como ovejas erramos, cada uno marchó por su camino, y Dios descargó sobre él la culpa de todos nosotros. Tras arresto y juicio fue arrebatado y ¿de su causa quién se preocupa?. Fue arrancado de los que viven; por nuestras rebeldías fue entregado la muerte. (Is 53)

14 Jesús es sepultado en la tumba

«Después de esto, José de Arimatea, que era discípulo de Jesús, aunque en secreto por miedo a los judíos, pidió autorización a Pilato para retirar el cuerpo de Jesús, Pilato se lo concedió. Fueron, pues, y retiraron su cuerpo. Fue también Nicodemo –aquel que anteriormente había ido a verle de noche- con áloe. Tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en vendas, con los aromas, conforme a la costumbre judía de sepultar. En el lugar donde había sido crucificado había un huerto, y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo, en el que nadie todavía había sido enterrado. Pusieron allí a Jesús. Todo parece acabado menos la esperanza y la fe. «El que cree en el Hijo de Dios vivirá para siempre y yo le resucitaré» había dicho Jesús. El entrega la vida pero no se la quitan, porque es el camino, la resurrección y la vida»

Al concluir nuestro Camino de la Cruz, abramos al Señor nuestro corazón y pidamos que su muerte fructifique en nuestras vidas Concédenos Señor, que como hemos sido bautizados en la muerte de tu Hijo Jesucristo podamos vivir su vida nueva para su eterna alabanza y gloriar.
